Blue Flag, an international program for environmental management and sustainable actions in the field of tourism, has just awarded Paradisus Los Cabos, part of the Meliá Hotels International Group, its blue flag for the season from July 2022 to June 2023, the first time that a hotel obtains this distinction at the destination. To obtain it, they had to meet and maintain a series of strict environmental criteria; security and services; environmental education and water quality.
“It is a great honor for us to have received this award, undoubtedly the result of the effort to ensure that our hotels meet all wellness standards,” said Edward Di Luca, Regional Director of the Mexican Pacific of the brand. He also recognized the challenge that this monitoring represents for a destination that receives visitors 52 weeks a year, compared to others that only work during the summer season.
Blue Flag is an internationally recognized badge, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The recognition they have received supports the hotel’s commitment to the preservation and care of the area’s beaches and ecosystem. This is derived from a brand strategy to promote eco-friendly tourism, which consists of mitigating the carbon footprint, reducing water consumption, minimizing environmental impact and reducing waste.
Meliá Hotels International has more than 380 hotels open or in the process of opening in more than 40 countries under different brands, including Paradisus. Its commitment to responsible tourism has earned it recognition as the most sustainable hotel group in Spain and Europe, according to the latest Corporate Sustainability Assessment by S&P Global (Silver Medal 2022).
